Guinea Pig Leashes: Not a Good Buy
Okay,
first off let me tell you this. When you get a guinea pig
out in the open, by God can they run. When those suckers
get a taste of freedom, watch out, those little feet can
carry them faster than you've seen anything move in your
life.
I thought it might be an entertaining idea to get a
guinea pig leash, yes there actually is such a thing, and
take my little pets to the 'parkett' down the street
where they could get some exercise and nibble on the
grass. Oh, they got exercise all right. I ran into a few
friends while I was there. Literally. I took Munch (my
two guinea pigs were named Crunch and Munch...Shut up...)
first because I only had the one leash and followed her
as she walked around. Then it happened. Now, let's face
it, those critters, as nice and adorable as they are, are
like little sausages with feet. There is no leash in the
world that could hold them. When Munch had the
opportunity, she somehow slipped out of the leash and ran
for dear life towards the other end of the parkett,
towards the cow field with the little forest.
I ran after the little thing as fast as my legs could
carry me. I had nearly caught up with her at the fence
when a friend of mine, who was a little closer, made the
necessary leap to catch her. I heard the most high
pitched squeal I'd ever heard come out of a creature as
my friend caught her by a fistful of fur. I picked up the
panicking animal and she ran up onto my shoulder. It was
sort of a security thing, they always ran up there when I
picked them up and they were sad or afraid and whatever.
Anyways, the moral of the story is guinea pig leashes are
Not A Good Buy...
