Place de la Concorde

The Place de la Concorde, is next to the Jardins des Tuileries. I found the fountain there rather beautiful. There are two fountains there in fact but one is undergoing work. The only problem with the Place is the traffic - it is extremely busy even for Paris. You'll also find a large ferris wheel there.

In the Place de la Concorde, rather out of place with the swirling traffic and ferris wheel, you'll come across an ancient Egyptian obelisk. This Egyptian obelisk was given to France as a gift from Muhammad Ali who ruled Egypt during the later half of the nineteenth century. It was originally from Luxor. Egyptians I've spoken to believe the obelisk should be returned to Egypt.
