The
cathedral of Notre Dame was built between 1163 and 1330. For me, it
was one of the most impressive Parisian sights. It really is much
more beautiful in person. Despite that, I tried to capture some of
its magnificence in these pictures. It is difficult to describe but
despite the huge crowds, there is a strange aura of calm around the
place. It is 130 metres long and the towers reach a height of 69
metres. Inside the cathedral there are three rose windows, the oldest
of which depicts Old Testament figures surrounding the Virgin. There
is also a magnificient organ which is one of the largest in the world.
The picture below shows in detail, the beautiful central arch at
the front of the cathedral. |
