I just got back from a really excellent round of D&D. Christine got some friends together and now we play after school every Wednesday. It's great fun. Today the DM wasn't here, so Christine gave us a little adventure that wasn't supposed to take as long as a real one. We didn't finish, but it was a lot of fun. The party was wandering around in the woods at night and we kept hearing scary things.
"You hear another wolf howl, much louder and much closer," read Christine. "Your horses - oh, never mind, you don't have horses."
"We have oxen!"
"That's not the same."
"We want to hear it anyway!"
Christine smiled. "All right. Your oxen whinney and rear in fright. Happy?"
So we got to an inn and the apparently nice innkeeper and his wife started talking to us and conveniently polishing our armour. As we were waiting for dinner, this other guy came in and randomly started flirting outrageously with my character. (I'm not sure if she rolled dice for that one or what.) He was in the middle of this gushy serenade and everybody except my character was falling asleep...well, on the chance that someone reading is going to play this adventure someday, I'll stop. But it got really interesting after that. It was a good battle, although I'm worried that my character's dog is going to die. He got wounded and we had to leave shortly after that.
But now I'm home and no one else is, which is nice since I get to make dinner for myself and not have to talk to anyone or battle my sister for the computer. I haven't been home alone in ages. It's so relaxing. I made quesadillas but was so busy fixing the website that they burned. They were still good, though.
At the Moment...
Weather: It was quite foggy this morning. Or maybe that was yesterday morning. Anyway, it's evening now and rather quiet and grey.
Feeling: very happy. Not quite as bouncy as when I came home, but I think the quesadillas have something to do with that.
Eating: a thin mint. Dessert.
Wearing: a Celestial Seasonings teeshirt my dad wore in the seventies. It's so threadbare I have to wear another shirt under it, but I like it a lot.
Song in my head: "Good Day, Sunshine" by the Beatles. I got that stuck in my head Monday because suddenly the line "I'm in love and it's a sunny day" seemed to sum up everything good in the world. And it was true.
Word for today: splendid.
Reading: I was reading Reviving Ophelia earlier today, but Christine's just lent me Gods in Everyman and I've been wanting to read that for the longest time, so I think I'll switch to that.
Listening to: the music playing in my head (Hey, that' a line from "Lady Madonna", isn't it)
Link for today: Homeric Hymn to Demeter. It's the classical source for the Persephone story.
Highlight of my day: playing D&D
