I'm cold! This is cause for great rejoicing. My extremities haven't been cold in six months. That's the best kind of being cold - when your fingers and nose and ears and feet are cold but the rest of you is warm. Ishmael was talking about that in Moby Dick, how if you're cold all over it's no fun but if you're warm all over you're not really enjoying the warmness because there's nothing to compare it to. So the best thing is when you're warm but your extremities are cold.

I've decided I need to live someplace where I can feel Southern in summer and Northern and winter. Being cold in the kitchen when it's dark out makes me feel as if I should be in a farm house in New England, but summer makes me feel as if I should be right here in Richmond. Maybe I'll settle for the Blue Ridge. Or maybe I'll just live in Maryland and never turn my AC on in the summer. Or not have one at all, for that matter.

At the Moment...
Weather: I just told you that
Song in my head: "Mignon, la rose". I was just looking at this picture of this old opera singer Kristina Nilsson playing Mignon.
Word for today: expeditious
Reading: I need to start "Death of a Salesman." We're supposed to have it read by Tuesday. Amy says the salesman is so obnoxious you can't wait for the end of the play so he'll be dead. I will find out.
Listening to: the washing machine
Goal: to go to bed soon
Link for today: Kristine Nilsson
Highlight of my day: volunteering at Meadow Farm
