Old News

Update September 20, 2000
Kinda crazy how many hits this site has been getting with so few sites, and also the amount of updates for such a "small" ring...

CW#3 has been updated with the following games: North & South, One on One (1988), Oil Imperium and One on One (Amiga).

Classic Trash has been updated with news of its ever growing essentials section with a new manual: Autoduel. Adventures Of Robin Hood, Fatal Relations (bad Thomas... naughty, naughty) and Fantasy Empires have been added to the site.

GOD (The good old days) has updated with news of the lack of votes on his incredible pole which you must, must vote on.

A search box and the game: sim city (disk version) have been added to The Keep.

Troddles, Cadaver, Hitchhikers Guide To Galaxy, Skyroads, Volfied, Simpsons, and Madtv have been added to Treasure Box, Phew! ;)

Update September 19, 2000
A new site has been added today. Please welcome DaI{iller Abandonware with 20 games, most reviewed!

Update September 18, 2000
Acorn Antiques added the games Sim City and Super Pool, and the util The Hacker. The screenshot of the site has been changed to one of the main page instead of the entrance page, as requested. Some of the sections of the site have been renamed "because of the review." Cool! ;)

A new webmaster named Aethyrs on classic trash added Monopoly Deluxe and Crime City to the site as well as a bug-fix Patch, and Crack, for Conquest of the New World. Another new webmaster, Orion, added The Lion King. Thomas/Tox added Ports of Call and Theme Hospital. Also Sim City (disk version) has been added to the site.

Nighthunter (Amiga) and WinUAE 0.8.14r3 (a new version) have been added to CW#3.

The Good Old Days has been updated with the following good news "Now the problem with Empire Deluxe should be solved. I scanned a part of the manual. It's full of typos and looks awful. But it's enough to pass the copy protection!" Also Border Zone has been added to the site. Take note that the webmaster's, Mr. Creosote's, e-mail address has changed to mr_creosote@gooddays.org.

One game, Master of Orion (CD), has been added to The Keep as well as the following apps: Audio 3.0, Car Maintenance Book for Windows, CPU Usage Meter 1.6, Eudora 2.2 Pro, Lotus AmiPro 3.0, Lotus AmiPro 3.1, MagnaRAM 2.0, and Turbo Pascal for Windows (english).

Sadly, there was some bad news over at the Treasure Box: "Sorry about download problems, there´s something wrong with Xoom.Hope they´ll fix it soon :)" Well now it is fixed and so Jybbe has added Dinopark Tycoon, Pirates Knights Of Legends, and Centurion to the site.

The screenshot of CW#3 has been fixed now and a new button by Deepcut has been added to the buttons section. Both Zork.nl and Treasure Box's URL's have been fixed/changed.

Update September 17, 2000
It's been a while but here's your update!

Zork.nl has changed its address back to zork.nl

Conquest of the Longbow and Heaven and Earth were added to B.S:O.D.

Red Lighting, Waterloo, Dragons Of Flame, Realms Of Arkania 2, Storm Across Europe, War In Middle Earth, Realms Of Arkania 1, Zeliard, Lost Dutchman Mine, Dungeon Master 1 and Seven Spirits Of Ra have been added to Classic Trash over the past few days. Also a new section called gaming essentials has opened up. So the site now has a bunch of manuals.

Cosa Nostra has added a few games and amiga roms as well as an app and a few manuals.

CW#3 has added a bunch of amiga games, and updated version of WinUAE, and a pc game.

HOTU has had two updates with a huge amount of games and manuals.

Real Amiga has added a couple of games and an updated version of WinUAE. I also added it's apps to TACT.

Good Old Days has also had a few updates with games and such. I now figured out who the real webmaster is. It's really simple, just take the first letter of each word in the title and you got it, he's GOD.

The keep has been updated many times as well with a huge amount of apps and a couple of games.

Treasure Box seems to has been updating daily lately, which is awesome. It's grown a lot adding a good amount of games and changing its layout to look nice in 800x600.

Lastly, and certainly not least, we have a great new site which focuses on Archimedes emulation. The site is called Acorn Antiques and it rocks. The layout is awesome as it attempts to simulate the Archimedes computer itself and does fairly well. It's just starting out so don't be too critical; it has great potential!

Update September 6, 2000
The sites just keep coming, Flashback Abandonware and Turnip's Vegigarden have joined! Three sites have updated and the world becomes a better place, for you and me... Oh, and the oreo site has been removed, see B.S:O.D for more details on that. I've spent 5 1/2 hours straight updating this so I'll split up the manuals page under the letters of the alphabet next update, sorry. There's a great new button that Turnip made, it's the beta version so expect it to be even better once Turny is done with it.

Flashback Abandonware is a wonderful site with tons of games. It has been well settled in the scene, started way back in '98 I believe. DaRkSiDe has been active in abandonware for longer than I can remember, much longer than me at least. It's great to have such an established site on TACT.

Turnip's Vegigarden is considered a "cult site" by many and has also been around for a long time. It now has a cool new design and a new section called the "inconsistancy spotlight" which really rox. Oh yeah, his nostalgic alerts rule! Turnip himself, well, you'll find out he just about rules the abandonware scene ;)

Abandonware Dungeon updated again, suprisingly enough, this time adding webalizer stats to the site. It's basically a server-side tracker that tends to count more hits than stuff like x-treme and such.

Perhaps just as suprising or even more, B.S:O.D was updated again, this time with four apps - three versions of QuickBasic and a dos version of VisualBasic. Something strange must be going on... and so it was, check out the new section called the oreo project. It's interesting to say the least.

Classic Trash updated with three new games: Darkseed 1 and 2, and Syndicate Wars! It's amazing how much more frequently the site has been updated lately, maybe I just notice it more since it's on TACT.

Cosa Nostra is being restarted after a long lack of updates. All the games have been removed and there is now a new design and one game, Shogun, on the site. John Gotti plans on focusing in on quality over quantity!

CW#3 has added a couple of PC games (4x4 Off-Road Racing and International Karate) and seven amiga games: John Madden Football, Garrison, James Pond 2 (ECS+AGA), James Pond, Indianapolis 500, IK+, and Invest.

Real-Amiga has updated with two new games (amiga, of course): Transarctica (AGA) and Transworld.

The Keep has finally added some games! Really! They aren't apps like in the last few updates... It has been nine days since they last added a game and that one was in chinese! The last time the keep added an english pc game was August 22. But enough picking on Elwood here, the three games are all great, two classics (Alley Cat and The Incredible machine 2) and one popular old freeware game (Pizzaworm).

The Good Old Days updated again adding Empire Deluxe. This proves Mr. Creosote's true identity! We have made a startling discovery, first this shows that reincarnation is definitely real and that we have one infamous person running a site on TACT. Beware! I think he's specifically targeting me from what his update says!

Zork.nl has had an addy change from zork.nl to zork.nl/zork.

Update September 3, 2000
Death to the Infidels!!! Four updates plus one new site!

First, Abandonware Dungeon has updated for the first time in nearly a month! "New maps and reviews and screenshots have been added for the Ultima games - Savage Empire, Martian Dreams, Underworld I,II." Ahh the classics ;)

B.S:O.D has added four games! Wow, who woulda thought the gamecount would get so high. The games are Dune 2, Eco Quest, Epic Pinball and (legend of) Kyrandia. And remember, only the highest quality reviews on Vo's site.

Then there's the good old Classic Trash site updating again. It's great to see more frequent updates by Tox after changing his site's design. The following games were added: Bloodwych, Cover Girl Strip Poker (bad... Thomas... bad!), and Demon's Winter

Last, but certainly NOT least, The Good Old Days has been updated with two new games and of course Mr. Creosote's amazingly detailed reviews. The games are: Cyber Empires and Fantasy Empires. Also he added a manual for Cyber Empires. Get the feeling he wants to take over the world by building the greatest empire yet. Maybe Mr. Creosote is Gengis Khan reincarnated??? Beware!

Oh yes, and our new site on the ring. It's run by Jybbe of Treasure Box except this one focuses on roms and emulation, namely of the NES and SNES. Yes, Nintendo rules! Did you know that back in the days of the NES, Nintendo used competitive tactics that would dwarf Microsoft's monopolistic moves! And you wonder why you never heard much about the SMS! Anyways the site is named Rom Box, of course! It features just seven games but each are reviewed in detail and it looks like the site is set up to become bigger than big! Well, let's wait and see, but it looks like a good start.

I guess that's all for today. By the way, this should be yester-year's news for most of you, but do you want to play sim city. Without having to go shell out the bucks or go to a dirty oldwarez site? Well check it out: Online SimCity.

Update September 2, 2000
The following amiga games were added to CW#3: Impact!, Indy Heat, Imperium, Archon, Archon II: Adept, and Hexuma. Rob has also upped the quality of its games pages through H. See site for more info.

semi-update
Big thanks goes to J-Who of AbandonGames.com for sending me the images stored in his cache. The site is now back and functioning although a few of the buttons have been lost.

Update September 1, 2000
Ahh, the end of a great month, the beginning of another. We now have the magical number of sites, yes it's 13. And, the NES roms have been split up alphabetically + unclassified.

The new site is (drumroll please!)... Oreo! A wonderful unique site that you have just gotsta check out! I mean oreos + abandonware, is there a better combo in the world?

Vohaul has added Bumpy's Arcade, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Supaplex and Tyrian to B.S:O.D with his long reviews above and beyond any quality standard.

Tox/Thomas has added Space Quest 2, Alter Ego Male, Alter Ego Female, Red Baron 1, Sensible Soccer, Sensible World Of Soccer, Roadwar 2000, Roadwar Europe, Civilization 1 for windows, Jones In The Fast Lane, Grand Prix Manager 1, SU-27 Flanker, Space Quest 1, and Space Quest 1 Enhanced to Classic Trash.

Roberto has gotten through the G section in upping the quality of his site and added many amiga games. These are: Cruise for a Corpse, Bio Challenge, Apprentice, HardBall II, Bubble Ghost, Bubble Bobble, Great Courts 2, Gunship, Guy Spy, Gods, Atomino, Elf, Airball, Future Wars, Frontier, Fighter Bomber, Cool Croc Twins, Arkanoid II, Doofus, Future Tank, Another World, and Advantage Tennis.

Home of the Underdogs updated with it's usual tremendous addition. The following games were added on the 28th: Gremlins 2: The New Batch (Hi-Tech), Gremlins 2: The New Batch (Elite), The Taking of Beverly Hills, Discworld Noir, Mixed-Up Fairy Tales, Avon, Countdown to Doom, Return to Doom, Last Days of Doom, Philosopher's Quest, Acheton, Hezarin, Hamil, SpySnatcher, Murdac, Nord and Bert Couldn't Make Head or Tail of It, Infidel, Brimstone, Mindwheel, Return to Pirate's Island 2, House of Cards, Caesar's Palace, Shanghai, Mindbender, Troika, Ocean Ranger, USS John Young 2, Ultimate Domain, Bo Jackson Baseball, and Boot Camp. Underdogs also added the following manuals (all non-PDF): Batman Returns, Shadow of The Comet, Skull & Crossbones, and Jurassic Park.

The Keep continued to increase its app and OS count adding four apps and one OS. The apps were Nullsoft WinAMP v0.2a, Nullsoft Winamp 1.10, Nullsoft Winamp 1.20, and Netscape Navigator 2.02. One OS was added: Free Dos Beta 4.

I seperated the NES section up now. Oh, I also found this site with a new free version of Abuse. It's very cool, I suggest you check it out. That's all for today.

P.S. - Flashware search no longer exists and has been replaced with Heureka! but unfortunately I have not had time to work with them to add a search box here. Laterz

Update August 27, 2000
It's sunday, without the ice cream, oh well... Two updates today - The Keep and Real Amiga. Along with this I have improved the screenshot of Classic Trash and revised some of the information in its review. The contest is composed of "five different questions and a new question will appear on this [Classic-Trash's contest] page every week. Each correct answer will give you between 1 and 3 points all depending on the difficultness." I hope this clears everything up. Also, I have finished seperating the nes roms from A-M. The rest will be seperated soon.

The Keep has added Netscape Navigator 2.02 to its Apps - Networking section.

Real-Amiga has added the rpg - Whales Voyage 2, the adventure - Wolfen, and the strategy game - Wikinger 2.

That's all folks ;)

Update August 26, 2000
It's been a long time, I know, I'm sorry but school hit me like a brick in the head. Well, eight sites have been updated ;)

Classic Trash has a completely new design, adding a working forum, an auction, search features, contest, and more! He's added a bunch of games as well: Buck Rogers 1, Buck Rogers 2, 4D Tennis, Heroes Of The Lance, Paradise Heights 1, Paradise Heights 2, Sword Of Aragon, Wargame Construction Set 3 Add On, War Of The Lance, Escape From Colditz (amiga).

CW#3 has been updated - Roberto going under a series of quality improvements through all the games on the site. He has gotten from # through D in both the Amiga and PC sections.

Golden Site has also been updated. He's added the following games: Romance of Three Kingdoms 4, MYTH, and Wing Library. Despite getting few banner clicks, the site will be hosted on the AR server soon and the webmaster promises to add games like "WWF: arcade game, Battle Crusier 3000 AD ( first version ) , Seal Team, Metal & Lace: the battle of robbo babes and more" once he moves to the new server.

Home of the Underdogs has had two major updates. The first one saw the addition of the following games: The Simpsons, Krusty's Super Funhouse, The Simpsons: Bart's House of Weirdness, The Simpsons: Bart vs. Space Mutants, Tom & Jerry, Rush 'N Attack, Forgotten Worlds, Sarge, Psycho, In The 1st Degree, L.A. Law, Return of The Dinosaur, Cyrus, Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos, Lords of Doom, KA-50 Hokum, F29 Retaliator, Heroes of The 357th, PT-109, Dreadnoughts, Joan of Arc: The Siege & The Sword, Siege: Dogs of War, Ambush at Sorinor, Walls of Rome, UMS, UMS II: Nations at War, and Tigers on The Prowl. He also added high-quality pdf manuals of Shadowcaster, Powermonger, Ishar 1, Ishar 2, Ishar 3, and non-PDF manuals of Master of Orion, Plan 9 from Outer Space (copy protection codes). In the next update he added these games: Back to The Future II, Back to The Future III, Skull & Crossbones, Cabal, The California Raisins, Jurassic Park, CyClones, Tom & Jerry: Yankee Doodle's CAT-astrophe, Broken Sword: The Shadow of The Templar, Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror, Little Red Riding Hood, Swiss Family Robinson, Hoyle Official Book of Games, Hoyle Official Book of Games Volume 2: Solitaire, Hoyle Official Book of Games Volume 3, Clue Master Detective, Sentinel Returns, Centauri Alliance, Northern Fleet, Stock Market: The Game, Orel Hershiser's Strike Zone, Pocket Rockets, Deadly Racer, Liverpool, and Rollerblade Racer. Real-Amiga added a new adventure game called Dark Seed for the amiga, of course.

The Good Old Days has added a bunch of really rare games that you probably won't find on any other site on the net. It's a tribute to the least talented programmer ever and I've got to say it's really well done. You'll have to check it out for the details, but it includes the following games you've never heard of, even if you are from Germany: Ballern, Flug 714 nach Sydney, Geh aufs Ganze, Herrscher, Der Preis ist heiss, Ein ganz normaler Schultag, Rate die Zahl, Spielautomat, and Spiel ohne Namen.

The Keep updated many times adding Pong 3k, Wing Commander Secret Missions 1 & 2, New Zealand Story, and the Atari version of Elite to the games section. ARJ 2.70, ARJ 2.71, Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 Beta, mIRC 2.1, mIRC 3.2, SimCGA, Teledisk 2.12, Teledisk 2.15, Excel 2.1, WinSTon, Pacifist v0.48, and Atari TOS 2.06 DE/UK/US were added to the Apps section. AT&T Unix SystemV 2.1 Release 4, Caldera DR Dos 7.02, IBM PC-Dos 1.10, IBM PC-Dos 1.25 Corona, IBM PC-Dos 2.10, IBM PC-Dos 3.21, IBM PC-Dos 3.30, IBM PC-Dos 4.00, Linux in a Pillbox 0.14, MS-DOS 6.22 (german), MS-DOS 7.00 beta, PC MOS 386 1.02, and PC MOS 5.01 were added to the Apps section. There were also a seemingly infinite number of roms (thousands and thousands) added to the NES section.

Treasure box was also updated a couple of times, first adding a review of Jedi Knight and then adding the following games: Back To The Future 2, Back To The Future 3, 2000 Leagues Under The Sea, Caesar, Puzzle Master, Space Crusader, Wayne Gretzky Hockey, Alcatraz, The Immortal, and Alternate Reality : The City. The webmaster has also taken up a second hobby, studying, uh oh...

Well, I guess it's time for me to stop writing. I've had some sites apply that I am still working with to make them qualify. Besides that I guess big news isn't. Just realize updates may not be frequent since school is in and well, school sucks. Oh yeah, if you're interested, Nintendo has announced the Cube and the gameboy advanced. Go check out the sites focused on new systems and shit like that if you want more info or of course the official nintendo site. I'll seperate the nes games by alphabet tommorow, ran out of time today. Over and out.

Update August 18, 2000
OK, I've split up the game list alphabetically. I will split up the other lists once they each surpass 1000. From now on the last ten days news will appear here and the rest will be in the old news section.

Update August 17, 2000
Oops, sorry about yesterday. Today we welcome Zork.nl and Classic Trash to the club. Both of these are high quality sites and I suggest you look at the reviews for more information on each. Also, Treasure Box has updated with a new, and much improved, design along with a great deal of games. I am going to split the games, apps, and manuals pages up into peices as they are all a bit too large. I also added a few trackers to the page since I have been getting comments from other webmasters that have made me interested in hits and the like. ASAP I will also add a news archive as this page has gotten too big as well.

Update August 15, 2000
I have two more sites to add and a bunch of site updates. I'm sorry but they'll have to wait for tomorrow as I couldn't finish it in time for today. Until then, bye.

Update August 14, 2000
Well, here we are, finally an update. I'm terribly sorry it's taken so long but now it's here. Some sites have been pushed back to the next update so that I could at least get these three in before adding more. Thank you all for your patience.

Update August 13, 2000
I apologize deeply for not being able to get the update done today. Tomorrow it will be done. I promise that. At that time the game count will soar above 3000 and the apps will be over 120, the manuals over 780, etc. etc.

Update August 12, 2000
Three sites have applied and I'm working on it but they will have to be added tomorrow. I'm very sorry about this and I'm actually not positive I'll be able to add them tomorrow since that is my birthday. Well, all three sites are big, very big, and I've compiled the lists for all of them, all I need to do is collaborate all the information together, but right now I really need sleep; church tommorow. Seeya then and expect everything to at least double tomorrow.

Update August 11, 2000
After two updates yesterday, I bet you were worried you wouldn't get one today. But here I am to say that the Good Old Days has added Indycar Racing. This is a user contribution. It's great to see visitors and webmasters working together! That's about it. The forms were screwed up, it seems. They should be working now!

Update August 10, 2000
update 2
I thought I would need to do another update! B.S:O.D has added seven games! Shanghai, Ringworld, Electranoid, Volfied, Stratego, Blockout and Hexxagon 2 are them. Is that not totally awesome, He's also added 3 quickbasic games: Arrakis, Monospace, and Ultimate Super Stack. Then there are two apps to go with that, Quick Basic 1.1 and Quick Basic 4.5. I mean Norry's done quite a job over there ;) Besides that, I can let you in on a secret, CW#3, The Keep, and Turnip's Vegigarden will be amongst the next sites to join ;)
update 1
Well, this is the first update of the day, maybe there will be another, but I can't be sure. Umm, not much happening actually. C-Net featured abandonware on it's front page, ermm a piece of crap article. It's says shit about microsoft actually giving a damn about abandonware, which it doesn't!!! I mean, have you heard of an abandonware site being shut down by microsoft, no!!! I haven't even heard of an abandonware webmaster being contacted by microsoft. At any rate, you can look at the article here. Well, this makes it official, CNet sucks ;)

Update August 9, 2000
I'm baaaaack. After being gone for a while for vacation and then to catch up with this, I'm here and here's your update. It seems competition with rings has increased as the RoA is back. I'm glad I don't have to worry about the stuff that happened there. TUOL changed its design nicely. Well, that's ok, we're still the best, I mean really ;) Now, where was I, oh yes... Every single site has updated since I left and we have one new site! Treasure Box is the name and personally I think it is well worth your time to visit! I just had a driving lesson today and lemme tell you, Atlanta traffic is the worst in the U.S.A. As for the updates well... Abandonware Dungeon has a new kickass design ;) v2.0 as it's called. It now uses SSI if that means anything to you! B.S:O.D has added a shitload of games raising it's count by 50%. Totally cool and you know what else? It's design did NOT change, woah, scary eh? Cosa Nostra has added a review, though be careful, it's really by Guc, hehe ;) The Golden Site has added quite a few games now and... totally changed the layout, it's like a completely new site! Real Amiga has added some games and box shots as well as updating some games to better working versions. You know roms and emulation, blah, blah, blah, hehe. The Good Old Days now allows users to submit reviews and other stuff. It already has one user review! It's also added a forum and a banner which I love so much that I think I'll put a direct link to his banner page here: The Good Old Days banner page.
Well, what did you expect a small or organized update? bwahahahahahhaa

Update July 26, 2000
Another new site, we're gonna be big someday. As of now though we're that kickass small ring, or is it a club? I don't care. DaRkSiDe has quit abandonware for personal reasons, and this really sux damnit. Well, I'm going on vacation for about a week so I'll see you later, bye.

Update July 25, 2000
We have yet another new site, this one is called the Golden Site. It's another one fo those small sites that gets overlooked among the big ones, well, it won't get overlooked here. He really well written reviews and a comprehensive rating system. I'm sure it's looking for a few more visitors so go take a look at it. I have added a few more games to the oldwarez list, most of which were already on TUOL's list. In news outside of the ring, TTG has decided to end his site. It has always been viewed as the most fantastic example for small abandonware sites. Fortunately this is not the end for a couple of his other projects, flashware and top zero. I personally would like to see him keep the site updated and come back to it every once in a while than see it die and I know a few hundred other people feel the same way. But I guess that's not enough. Well, the good thing is it is hosted on TUOL so it probably won't be deleted.

Update July 24, 2000
Uh oh, no update or new site! Well, that sucks, but umm... let's see. Oh yes, I found out what version of civilization is being sold! It's the dos version, suprise, suprise. I've also added Cyclones, Gabriel Knight 1&2, and Death Rally to the list. I was notified that whiplash is also known as fatal racing and so that has been added. BIG thanks to Vohaul for many of these findings. I will be notifying the affected sites of course ;)

Update July 23, 2000
Well, here we are again with another update and a very high quality site has joined! The Good Old Days is the name and the reviews are lengthy and humorous at times plus you can view multiple screenshots for each game at this site! I hope you all will enjoy it as much as I have.

Update July 22, 2000
I have added TACT's oldwarez list. It specifies exactly where you can order each game. There are a few games there that aren't on the other rings' oldwarez lists and there are quite a few on other rings' lists that aren't on our own. I suggest everyone take a look since some of the prices are more than reasonable. One game pack included 15 games for only $17.53. That's near a buck a game! Our game count has gone down by one since a site had its game count off by one and has removed two oldwarez games. Both of the games he had for download were only just recently re-released so don't go around expecting to find oldwarez at that site. Now, I am anxiously awaiting Turnip's signup as he promised me he would, but so far it hasn't happened.

Update July 21, 2000
I believe the commotion over the article I wrote is settling down. Now I can focus on the ring. We have a new site, and it's a great one, the Abandonware Dungeon. Run by Hawk, a really nice guy ;). Go check out the review and stuff for details. We have also added the flashware search! Oh and for all you Netscape users, Cosa Nostra is now Netscape compatible! Phew, what a day

Update July 20, 2000
Well, I've added a couple of search engines to the left and I'm toying with the idea of an abandonware startpage. I hope to add the flashware search engine as soon as I figure out how much I can customize it. In the meantime, try out Lycos and Altavista. The give me a couple of cents each time you use them. Maybe we can make a contest if we get enough money to buy a prize ;) We don't exactly have money flowing out of our arses like some webmasters do. Which brings me to the next point. I may have a co-webmaster soon and boy am I looking forward to that. That's just a maybe though. Well, two sites said they would join but I haven't gotten their submissions yet. Patience is a virtue, oh yes.

We've made the news, flashware news that is. Go check it out here.

I've added an interesting site to the resources section. It's done by PsOmA and uses the old RoA design. It essentially lists all the oldwarez and abandonware sites he could find. He says it'll be updated monthly so go have a look, couldn't hurt.

Update July 19, 2000
I have added the first two sites. Please welcome B.S:O.D and Cosa Nostra to the ACT! As you can see, I put lots of time and effort into this and I am very happy with the results!

Also, I would like to inform everyone that TUOL is taking swift action against oldwarez and I am happy to say we made an impact over there. On the other hand, no one over at the AR has paid the slightest attention to me. There are some very interesting remarks being stated on TUOL's forum so I suggest you take a look right here.

Update: Dailog from the AR's forum is as follows:
Thomas: Why didn't you remove the beholder series yet? It have been almost a week since I told you about them and I even gave you the link you have now posted in the main AR page. Thats hopefully the lowest level you will ever get to and I think you can only improve from now on. This is also the third time you are told, but I guess sites only will be deleted from the ring the fifth time!!! hahaha....
Admin (Swizzle): Automatic deletions have been removed - for us to remove something we now have to do it directly though Telnet or SSH. So next time I am logged in I will remove them. If thats not fast enough for you, I really don't care.
Thomas: You should been able to delete them within an hour like the rest of us, but I know you don't really care about that, about me, about your visitors or The Depot - as long you can make a few $ from it you are happy, right?
blargy (that's me): And really, the main focus here... do you give a damn about the companies your hurting by keeping those downloads up instead of pointing to the company's site??? If not, go ahead and run a warez site, you'll make more money, get more hits, and have that superiority complex of yours taken out of abandonware. Thx, and bye.
Noryaku/Vohaul: Or was the AR one of the two origins of the whole 'oldwarez is bad' stuff? I mean, c'mon, being a hypocrit is fine with me, but at least be a hypocrit over stuff that doesn't concern us. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Support yourself, I sure as hell won't...

Update: Abandonware Ring lists Metal Painkiller Abandonware, an oldwarez site, as Site of the Week.

There are three main rings in the abandonware scene right now and several smaller ones. The smaller ones will not be the focus of this essay, although I do recognize their importance and existence. There are several problems with the main rings, TUOL, AR, and backlane. The most major problem is the amount of oldwarez sites on each. After a fairly thorough look through of each ring, I found that the majority of the bad sites, those that broke rules or were closed down, had broken the rules against oldwarez.

The Ultimate Oldgames Linkpage (TUOL) is my very favorite ring. I worked on the team for a while and enjoyed running the large ring, so when I found so many sites breaking the oldwarez rule, which I thought was heavily enforced, it surprised me. There were a total of nineteen sites with at least one game on TUOL’s oldwarez list. When taking into consideration that there were a total of 103 sites, that means 18.4% of TUOL’s sites had oldwarez. I believe that is too high for a ring of abandonware and something needs to be done. I could just tell them the sites and they would be warned and taken down, but eventually I believe the problem would arise again. So I looked at the other rings to see how the problem affected them before making my decision.

The Abandonware Ring (AR or ABWR) is one I’ve always held a grudge against because of its webmaster, Swizzle. It is the second largest ring and has 80 sites as of now. This low number is because I think they tried to clean up just recently. This would put the other rings at a disadvantage now, I thought. But after the research was finished I realized how wrong that was. The Abandonware Ring, after its cleanup, still had 25 oldwarez sites, meaning 31.25% of all the ring’s sites had oldwarez! And to add to the treachery, Swizzle’s own “The Depot” had two oldwarez games. I was appalled. This was according to the AR’s own oldwarez list, not TUOL’s. So my last hope of finding a clean ring was so small it might as well have been nil, as I looked to backlane, a ring long known for oldwarez.

Backlane is a really new ring and has grown extremely quickly with 73 sites in total. Its infamous webmaster, gravedigger, used attacks upon other rings and people to gain popularity among the scene. His unique personality is one I’ve come to despise, but that’s not the main focus here. His ring had a few broken links, a site that forced banner clicks, a couple of sites with porn banners, but the main problem is that while he calls the ring one of abandonware, 35 sites on the ring are oldwarez sites according to TUOL’s list (backlane has no list). Most of the oldwarez sites on backlane have more oldwarez than those on the AR or TUOL. If you care to calculate, this means 47.9% of the sites on backlane have oldwarez. Perhaps backlane is best described as an oldwarez ring, but it’s not up to me to decide that. This did lead to my conclusion as to what I should do.

I decided to build a new ring that would be dedicated to keeping clean of oldwarez, bad links, forced banner clicks, and porn. This ring would be dedicated to classic gaming and the preservation of games that might be abandoned by the gamers as well as the companies, without us. So here you have it, The ACT (Abandonware Community Triumph) or, if you like, TACT.
