- Summary on back cover -

If you have the stamina to read this book you're in for a real treat.  To be sure it is extremely long - over 1000 pages - but it is worth  it.  Anne managed to create an entire family, through the generations almost like a detailed inspection of the Maharet's great family.  The detail of the novel is amazing and the characters seem so different and distinct you can almost imagine they were a real family.   It's interesting to see the Talamasca as well, becoming a sort of link between the Mayfairs and the Vampire Chronicles.
My favourite character from the vast number featured was Julien.  He reminded me of Marius a little for some strange reason.  I also found Lasher intriguing and my only complaint would be that I was not that fond of the two heroes of the novel - Rowan and Michael.
I found the series of events surrounding Stella, Antha, Deirdre and their eventual destruction extremely moving.  In particular Antha's murder was horrifying.  Oh yes before I forget - I loved the scenes in Scotland but no, Donnelaith does not really exist!  I have checked believe me...

If The Witching Hour is your favourite novel vote for it.
