- Summary on back cover -
In love with the good, in thrall to evil, from the hanging gardens of Babylon to modern New York, Azriel lives for all time.
Azriel, Servant of the Bones, powerful, dark and luminous is a ghost, a demon, an angel.  In Anne Rice's mystical and magical new novel he finds himself in present day New York, a dazed witness to the murder of a young girl, and inexplicably obsessed by the desire to avenge her.
Azirel's astonishing story takes us back to his mortal youth in the magnificence of ancient Babylon.  There he is plucked from death by evil priests and sorceresses and transformed into a genie commanded to do their bidding.   But Azriel challenges these forces of destruction, and embarks on his journey through time.  As his quest approaches its climatic horror, Azriel at last dares to use his supernatural powers in the hope of forestalling a world threatening  conspiracy, and finally redeeming what was denied him so long ago: his own eternal soul.

- My opinion -
I thoroughly enjoyed this  novel - it was quite different from what I expected.  I think mainly I was pleased with the character of Azriel.   Not without his flaws, he was still likeable and sympathetic.   Some parts of the story seemed rather improbable but the scenes in ancient Babylon were fascinating and intriguing.
