I found an interesting web site which explains the meaning behind names. I was shocked to discover they have most of the vampire's names there! It may not be an accurate meaning but why not look anyway, if only for fun.

- My opinion of Santino -
Santino definately attracts me, possibly because he's Italian and rather mysterious. I wish Anne would mention him more. He should really tell his story. A scene which I find interesting is in the Queen of the Damned where he meets Mael after he and Pandora rescue Marius.
'Mael appeared not to like his hesitation, but to accept it. Suspiciously he gazed at Pandora, whom he had never trusted, and then with open hostility he stared at Santino, who was busy brushing off his black garments and combing his fine neatly trimmed black hair. For one second, their eyes met, Santino bristling with viciousness, then Mael turned away.'

I have always wondered why do he and Mael hate each other so much? For some reason I would love to see them in a fight! And what is his relationship with Maharet? Does anyone know? No, that's what I thought, not even Anne knows. Sigh. ):
I also wonder why he and Marius seem to get on so well. It is possible of course but we do not get a good explanation about this. I mean, he was the leader of the coven which burnt Marius. Now they're good friends and Santino seems eager to help Marius. Hmm. Well that is interesting.
After reading Blood and Gold I felt it necessary to update the Santino page...I haven't studied the novel in any great detail and don't feel fit to offer any commentary....personally I didn't enjoy Blood and Gold that much. I certainly didn't approve of the murder at the end!
