Santiago

Book he appears in
Interview with the Vampire
Character description
'He was enormous in height though gaunt as myself, his long, white face very bright under the lamp, his large, black eyes staring at me.'
(Interview with the Vampire)
I found an interesting web site which explains the meaning behind names.  I was shocked to discover they have most of the vampire's names there!  It may not be an accurate meaning but why not look anyway, if only for fun.

- My opinion of Santiago -
Hmm.  Well what can you say about someone who killed Claudia?  Of course he is a deliberately unlikeable character and we know very little of his background.  Regardless of that I know he has some fans out there.  Good luck to them!

- Status of Santiago in the film Interview with the Vampire -
I think he should have had black hair.  I guess he would have looked too similar to Armand and that is why they didn't do this.  I did enjoy Stephen Rea's performance very much especially the scene where he smiles at Louis after he has discovered Claudia's ashes.  I have rarely seen pure malice portrayed so well with a simple look.  All in all even though he did not visually look like my image of Santiago (not at all Latin) I think his performance captures the malicious side of the trickster very well.
