- Summary on back cover -

After 2000 years of sleep, Ramses the Great lives.
When archaeologist Lawrence Stratford uncovers the tomb of Ramses the Great, he unwittingly brings a havoc of destruction and desire to Egypt and Edwardian London.
Julie, his beautiful, strong willed daughter, heir to his fortune is awakened by Ramses to a dizzying  sensuality she has never known before.
Elliott, the enigmatic Earl of  Rutherford, at the mercy of a crippling disease, becomes obsessed by Ramses and the power that he holds.
Ramses himself, golden and glorious, the man who has a god's secret in his posession.  Overflowing with superabundant life, he must feed constantly the        appetites he can never assuage.  And the mortals who share Ramses own sensuous zest for pleasure are those most at risk from his unceasing desire for Cleopatra...

- My opinion -
Well I am a huge fan of Egypt so I couldn't help but be entertained by this novel. However it is obviously a sort of 'comedy' novel. I think Anne deliberately chose to write like this - some of the dialogue seems ridiculous.  The idea of Cleopatra        and Ramses as lovers is rather interesting you must admit...
I have read in several places that Anne originally wanted to include Ramses as a character in the Queen of the Damned, which was written  directly before this novel. She couldn't find a way to include him in the plot and this lead to the creation of a new novel.
The strange thing is the conclusion - it seems ripe for a sequel.  Anne has stated in some interviews that she plans to write a follow up to this novel so we shall see if she does or not.

If The Mummy is your favourite novel vote for  it.
