Character description 'He was dressed all in red velvet and splendidly tall.  His blond hair was parted in the middle in a saintly fashion and combed richly down to his shoulders where it broke over his cloak in lustrous curls.  He had a smooth forehead without a line to it, and high straight golden eyebrows dark enough to give his face a clear, determined look.' I found an interesting web site which explains the meaning behind names.  I was shocked to discover they have most of the vampire's names there!  It may not be an accurate meaning but why not look anyway, if only for fun. Click here for the meaning of the name Marius. Here is the meaning from the Penguin dictionary of first names by David Pickering.   This is likely to be more accurate and relevant. ~ Marius ~ Roman name that may have come from that of Mars, the Roman god of war, or else possibly from the Latin Maris ('male' or 'manly').  A suggestion that it comes from the Latin mare ('sea') is usually discounted.  Also found in several other European languages since the Renaissance, it has made occasional appearances as a first name among English speakers since the 19th century.  Well known bearers of the name have included British actor Marius Goring(1912-1998).

- My opinion of Marius - I find Marius to be very interesting and attractive probably because he represents a scholarly and intelligent type of figure.  I have always found knowledge very attractive.  I particularly like his argument with Akasha in the Queen of the Damned.  I agree with much of what he said.  My only problem with Marius is his making of Sybelle and Benji.  Sybelle is not so bad but...how could he make Benji, a 12 year old boy into a vampire?  That was a bad move and I'm not happy with it.  I forgive him of course.. By the way my favourite colour is also red, as you can tell by my design. - Status of Marius in the film The Queen of the Damned - Marius is to be played by the very handsome Swiss born actor, Vincent Perez.  I've seen Vincent act several times in films like "The Crow City of Angels" and "Swept by the Sea".  I'm sure he will do a good job as Marius.  Strangely enough in the film he is to be Lestat's maker!  Odd...
