Here is an interesting picture of Magnus with Lestat from the graphic novels by Innovation.  Please click on it for a large version.
I found an interesting web site which explains the meaning behind names.  I was shocked to discover they have most of the vampire's names there!  It may not be an accurate meaning but why not look anyway, if only for fun.

Magnus.

Here is the meaning from the Penguin dictionary of first names by David Pickering.  This is likely to be more accurate and relevant.
~ Magnus ~
Roman name meaning 'great' that was revived as a first name among English speakers early in the 20th century.  The name is usually traced back to the 9th century Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, who was also known as Carolus Magnus('Charles the Great').  Subsequently the name was taken up in medieval Scandinavia amd was borne in honour of Charlemagne by seven kings of Norway and several saints.  The name subsequently reached Scotland and Ireland via the Shetlands, where it remains very common.  It became more widespread among English speakers from the 1960's.  Variant forms include the Irish Manus, the Danish Mogens and the Finnish Mauno.
- My opinion of Magnus -
Well, I suppose we should all be grateful to Magnus, Lestat's maker.  Without Lestat there would be no Louis and no vampire chronicles!  What a horrible thought.  Actually I don't like the way Magnus abandoned Lestat but I guess he had his reasons or something.
Apparently in the movie Marius will be Lestat's maker instead of Magnus.  Well that sounds odd to me but I suppose I'll have to get used to it.  So that means in the movie Lestat and Armand will be brothers, so to speak.  That is a strange thought!
