This is my favourite Lestat picture but it's not in the movie.  Sigh.
Character description
'His face would have been cruel if it weren't for his childlike rapture and exuberance.'
(The Queen of the Damned)

'Behold: your hero for the duration, a perfect imitation of a blond, blue eyed, six foot, anglo saxon male.  A vampire and one of the strongest you'll ever encounter.  My fangs are too small to be noticed unless I want them to be and they're very sharp, and I cannot go for more than an hour without wanting human blood.'
(Memnoch the Devil)

- My opinion of Lestat -
I like Lestat, it is hard not to!  After all in spite of his faults, he is always interesting and lively.  Or should I say he 'was' lively before Memnoch...I believe after reading Merrick Lestat is finally back to his old self again.  Well a little altered, perhaps wiser.  I am so pleased about this and I do hope he appears in Blood and Gold.  I don't know if he will though since it is Marius' story.
As for his star sign well he has to be a Leo don't you think?  Leos love the spotlight and hate being ignored.  They are often looked on as arrogant even if they are not really.  Sounds like Lestat a little, right?  Well perhaps not, its just an idea.  Remember his stage name was Lelio...
Anne has stated in interviews that the character of Lestat is the vampiric character that she wishes she was whereas Louis is the character whom she is most like in reality.  She also stated that she based the character partly on her husband Stan.  When you consider that she orginally planned to call Lestat 'Lestan' this becomes more apparent.
Lestat fans please visit my
polls section where you can vote for the person you wish was playing Lestat in the new movie.  I know he has been cast but I want to find out everyone's opinions.  If you have a suggestion which is not on the list you may add it.  Then come back to check I've added it.

- Status of Lestat in the film Interview with the Vampire -
As everyone knows Lestat was played by Tom Cruise in the film Interview with the Vampire.  At first Anne Rice was furious about this news as she did not regard Cruise as a credible actor.  Yet he proved himself worthy of the role - its safe to say Interview was a great help for him in his career in that he was taken more seriously as a actor in subsequent films such as Jerry Maguire and Magnolia.  I think visually, Cruise features in many people's mind as 'the' image of Lestat.  Certainly the blond hair is spot on.

- Status of Lestat in the film The Queen of the Damned -
In the Queen of the Damned Stuart Townsend, a young Irish actor will play Lestat.  At first many Lestat fans were unhappy at this news.  Perhaps because of the visual side of things - in the film Stuart will have
dark hair instead of Lestat's trademark yellow mane.  I cannot really understand why the makers of the film would choose to do this - Stuart looks fine as a blond.  For more information and pictures visit the news page.  Unfortunately I've never seen him act before but from what I have read, he appears to be a credible actor.

I found an interesting web site which explains the meaning behind names.  I was shocked to discover they have most of the vampire's names there!  It may not be an accurate meaning but why not look anyway, if only for fun.

Lestat.
It seems that Anne Rice in fact invented the name 'Lestat'.  She wanted to call the character 'Lestan' which does exist but she made a spelling error!
This is the absolutely gorgeous Jude Law who is a candidate in my 'who is your ideal Lestat'  poll.   Go and cast your vote now if you agree or have another choice.  Personally I think he'd make an excellent vampire.  Besides being gorgeous he is also an excellent actor in my opinion.  He is capable of displaying such cruelty while still appearing attractive - a useful trait when portraying vampires.  In the film 'the Wisdom of Crocodiles' he played a vampire like character.
