Roman name derived from the Latin felix('happy' or 'lucky') that entered use as a first name among English speakers in medieval times and has been in regular use since the 19th century. It appears in the Bible as the name of a Roman procurator of Judea and was subsequently borne by a number of saints and by four popes. Having declined in use after the middle of the 20th century, it enjoyed a marked resurgence in the 1990s.
