From the Hebrew meaning 'God is my judge'. In the Bible, Daniel was a slave famed for his ability to interpret dreams. He rose to become a powerful man whose enemies persuaded the king to forbid prayers to anyone but himself. Daniel's refusal to stop praying to God led to his being thrown into a den of lions but, with God's protection, he remained unharmed. The name became popular among the Celts who held the ability to interpret dreams very highly. Indeed, the short form of the name Danny, is today particularly associated with Ireland thanks to the popularity of the song 'Danny boy'. In Arthurian legend, Daniel is the name of a knight who was brother to Sir Dinadan. At the end of the twentieth century, Daniel was among the most popular names given to boys.

- My opinion of Daniel -
I found Daniel to be interesting and a character which we could all relate to. Well those of us who long for immortality anyway. It is a shame the relationship between he and Armand was not sustained over more novels. I do wish Anne would mention what he's been up to recently. One complaint though, how can someone have violet eyes? Very strange...but beautiful nonetheless.

- Status of Daniel in the films Interview with the Vampire and The Queen of the Damned -
Daniel was played by Christian Slater in Interview with the Vampire. I think he did an adequate job. The role was originally to go to River Phoenix who tragically died just before filming. Because of this the film is dedicated to him.
