I found an interesting web site which explains the meaning behind names. I was shocked to discover they have most of the vampire's names there! It may not be an accurate meaning but why not look anyway, if only for fun.

- My opinion of Akbar -
In case you forgot, Akbar is the burnt vampire who attacked Pandora and therefore forced Marius to make her immortal. Not exactly a likeable character then but I guess if you had been burnt up, you wouldn't be too friendly either. Not that I'm saying what he did was okay. Certainly not!
I have suggested he from the Middle East simply because Akbar is definately an Arabic name which I guess must be pre Islamic because he was made way before Islam. Akbar means biggest or greatest in Arabic by the way. Not quite appropriate for this guy but anyway...
