us was this: From : Ron <Ron@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx> Sent : To : <alisonranger@ hotmail.com> Subject : what a show! Guys, wassup?! I'm the older
dude who heard you at the main line "y" last saturday, 6/14. I've been reading the lyrics while listening to your cd. i don't remember ever doing that before. I didn't want to miss a
thing. your stuff still amazes me. i noticed only 4 names on the credits. was somebody just sitting in with you for the 6/14 show or did you add
another member since the cd! i hope you intend on keeping 2
keyboards in your line up. as a keyboard player, i must say that's what drew me
in. (i went to hear ryan marley, but i couldn't pull myself away from your act.) i can't say enough about
how musical you are. you asked me if i'm a music teacher. well, i went
to college for music ed. i've started playing music
since i was 8 years old - looooong time. i'd be really
disappointed if you said none of you guys took music lessons. not only are you
great on your instruments but there's so many other musical elements in your
work. if i was a teacher, i'd definitely have my class get your cd
& listen for stuff like counterpoint ryhthms in themusic
AND the vocals, texture, dynamics, accents, phrasing, teamwork, etc., etc., etc. yur
parts are more orchestrated than just memorized. some of my favorite things are how the drums emphasize the words
"i know what i want to say, but sometimes you freeze." i
love how you use the two vocals for complete opposite reasons, one's lyrical, the
other shouts - more percussive. at the show when i couldn't hear the
words (but on the cd the mix is unreal!) i just took in the vocals as another instrument, like a horn or
sax, & it made perfect sense because it was integrated so perfectly with the
music, words or no words. who does the lyrics? you paint crazy word
pictures that lead me all over th place. sometimes i
have no idea what the song is about (because i'm so
into the music) or the songs can mean anything i want them to. "breathing water" - now where did that come from? i love "inch tall
water" analogy. my favorite vocal on the whole cd is the counterpoint
"suck in the air. ." along with "nothing floats forever." i don't really
go out of my way to hear music like yours except I catch some on college radio, but i
don't remember hearing current stuf with such power & impact as yours. keep up the great work - keep plugging away. i wish i was a big record
producer or a manager. i was in an original
rock band back in the 80's. when we got a manager to find us gigs, things really started to change for the
better. please put me on your mailing list at the top!
this is the longest e-mail i've ever written! hope-2-c-u-again! ron martella (you can tell by my e-mail address that
i'm a church dude - so i ain't lying!!) Coincidentally, at the time that we stopped playing, this young
lady emailed us: From : RANGER,ALLISON
NICOLE Sent : To : alisonranger@ hotmail.com Subject : hello! Hello, I found your website online and I don't know if you are
still a band, but I wanted to tell you that my name is Allison Ranger so I
really think that your band is cool. Except for that it only has
one "L" but still, what are the chances, you know? Anyways, email me back
if you get this and let me know if you are still playing and so forth.
Good Luck and very creative band name. Allison Ranger After years of joking around and creating this fictitious
persona, a real Allison Ranger reveals herself. Allison, you can now have
your name back. |
